Why Are You Boring Me?

If you stumbled onto this blog, you may want to know what it's about (or what it's supposed to be about).  It is an attempt to justify what I've been doing for the past 3 years of my life; that is, finish a graduate thesis.

I am a graduate student in Geology, and my intent is to mostly schmooze about the Sierra City melange, the structurally uppermost unit of the Shoo Fly complex in the Northern Sierra Nevada Range, California.

Other random posts may show up.  I'm pretty sure they'll involve food, my family, or my cats.  Probably all three at once.

Cheers.

Shoo Fly Don't Bother Me

Where to begin?  For starters, this is a portion of my field area in the Northern Sierra Nevada range.  I am looking for signs of an ancient subduction zone in the Shoo Fly complex.  The big rock on the right side is a huge chunk of serpentine, California's official state rock.
